Lee Roy Selmon's life story blends the virtues of family football scholarship and volunteerism in the community. First family, he's the youngest of the nine children born to Lucious Selmon and Jessie. They grew up on a farm in Eufala, Oklahoma. In second football, he was one of three brothers who played for Oklahoma. The three brothers all made All-America. Lucious Jr. Dewey & Lee Roy started for one season in 1973. Lee Roy won the Outland and Lombardi Awards as the nation's top lineman. Over the course of three seasons, Oklahoma was 32-1-1 with Roy being the starting player. Also, they won the national title twice. The third scholarship was awarded to him. He was an National Football Foundation Scholar-Athlete in 1975. Selmon has a bachelor's degree in education. Lee Roy was involved in volunteer work ten hour per week during his time at college. Then he settled in Tampa following college. He was a member of the Buccaneers for nine years and made three times all-pro. His business career began. In 1988, as an account representative at First Florida Bank of Tampa, he worked with Special Olympics Easter Seals Baptist Church Ronald McDonald House United Negro College Fund South Florida Institute Black Life Hall of Fame Bowl Committee. There was no doubt that the year 1982 was when The Junior Chamber of Commerce named Lee Roy one of 10 outstanding youngsters across the nation. Lee Roy stood 6-2 in the height department and weighed 256 lbs when he was a student athlete. He was captain of the team in 1975. In 1993, he was a part of at the University of South Florida as an associate director of athletics. Selmon has been inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame since 1988. The Oklahoma City Chapter National Football Foundation gave its Distinguished American Award for 1989 to Lucious Selmon, Sr. Henry Bellmon was the Oklahoma Governor who presented this award.
